YouTube Music Launches AI Labels for Content Transparency
YouTube Music has launched a new AI music labeling feature that displays an 'AI' tag on songs created or assisted by generative AI. This feature will also expand to the main YouTube application in the near future. This development increases transparency in the music industry by helping listeners clearly identify the extent to which artificial intelligence was used in production. It establishes a new standard for major streaming platforms dealing with generative media. The labeling system relies on creator declarations divided into three categories—Fully Gen AI, Partly Gen AI, and No Gen AI—alongside YouTube's internal detection tools for automated tagging. Standard audio processing tools like Auto-Tune are explicitly excluded from being classified as AI.
## BACKGROUND
Auto-Tune is a digital audio processing software application used to measure and correct pitch inaccuracies in vocal performances. Traditional production tools like Auto-Tune or automated mastering software are considered standard techniques and do not trigger generative AI labels.
