YouTube Globally Rolls Out AI Music Tool to Resolve Copyright Disputes
YouTube is globally rolling out the AI-powered 'Replace song' tool within YouTube Studio, allowing creators to resolve audio copyright disputes by instantly generating royalty-free background music. Once the copyrighted audio is replaced, the corresponding Content ID claim is automatically removed. This update significantly reduces the friction and creative disruption caused by audio copyright claims for millions of content creators. It highlights a practical, industry-scale application of generative AI in digital media management. When faced with a copyright claim, creators can use the tool's 'Create' button to generate four unique, roughly three-minute instrumental tracks that can be looped or adjusted on the timeline. Currently, the tool only generates instrumental background music and does not support vocals or full songs.
## BACKGROUND
YouTube Content ID is a digital fingerprinting system developed by Google that automatically scans uploaded videos for copyrighted material and allows rights holders to block or monetize them. YouTube Studio is the central web and mobile dashboard where creators manage their channels, upload videos, and track analytics.
