XPeng Expands Autonomous Driving to Europe, Targeting 2027 NGP Launch
XPeng announced that it can adapt its autonomous driving system to a new European country in approximately two weeks using minimal local data. The company plans to introduce its full-featured NGP system to Europe by 2027 without releasing a downgraded version. This highlights a highly efficient localization strategy for Chinese smart EVs entering overseas markets, overcoming regulatory and geographical hurdles quickly. Bringing full-featured autonomous driving capabilities to Europe could significantly increase competition in the global smart mobility sector. The model alignment process requires only one ten-thousandth of the data needed to train the foundational AI model. The system will handle complex urban and highway scenarios, including traffic sign recognition and cyclist avoidance, tailored to unique European driving habits.
## BACKGROUND
Autonomous driving localization involves tuning perception and planning algorithms to comply with local road structures, traffic laws, and driving behaviors. Model alignment helps a pre-trained foundational AI adapt to specific target environments using a fraction of the original training data.
