XPeng Elected Secretariat of UN Task Force on Autonomous Driving Regulations
XPeng Group has been elected as the Secretariat of the newly established Task Force on Exchange of Scenario-Related Information (TF-ESRI) under the UN's UNECE GRVA / WP.29 regulatory framework. This marks the first time a Chinese company has secured a secretariat role within the core autonomous driving regulatory framework of the United Nations. The appointment represents significant international recognition of Chinese autonomous driving technology and enables XPeng to actively participate in shaping global vehicle safety regulations. It reflects China's growing influence in international automotive standardization as manufacturers expand advanced driving systems to global markets. XPeng recently tested its second-generation Turing AI Vision-Language-Action (VLA) NGP model on European roads, adapting to complex driving conditions and traffic regulations with virtually no additional training data. The company aims to be the first Chinese automaker to introduce high-level intelligent driving assistance to Europe using a unified model for both markets.
## BACKGROUND
WP.29 is the World Forum for Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations hosted by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), with GRVA serving as its dedicated Working Party on Automated/Autonomous and Connected Vehicles. Additionally, Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models combine visual perception, natural language understanding, and vehicle control within a single architecture to improve autonomous driving decisions.
