XPeng Aims for Guangzhou Robotaxi Per-Vehicle Break-Even by H2 2027
XPeng CEO He Xiaopeng announced that the company aims to achieve per-vehicle break-even for its Guangzhou Robotaxi business by the second half of 2027. The company plans to launch a dedicated Robotaxi model next year and expand its services globally through an asset-light partnership model. By opting for a full-stack solution provider model instead of operating its own fleet like Waymo, XPeng reduces capital expenditure and operational complexity. This strategy highlights a shift in the autonomous driving industry toward asset-light partnerships to accelerate commercialization and global expansion. Achieving break-even will depend on establishing high vehicle density within specific operating zones rather than overall fleet size. Over half of the dozens of potential partners XPeng is negotiating with are located overseas, indicating a strong focus on international markets.
## BACKGROUND
Robotaxis are self-driving taxis that operate without a human driver, relying on autonomous driving software and hardware. Physical AI refers to artificial intelligence systems integrated with physical hardware like robots and vehicles to interact autonomously with the real world, which XPeng views as its core long-term growth driver.
