XPeng Advances Humanoid Robot Supply Chain Audits with Significant Tesla Supplier Overlap
XPeng has completed supply chain audits and core component selections for its humanoid robot, hosting its inaugural Robot Supply Chain Partner Conference. Reports reveal a high degree of overlap between XPeng's core component suppliers—covering actuators, sensors, AI chips, and dexterous hands—and those serving Tesla's Optimus project. This overlap highlights how leading EV makers are leveraging mature automotive supply chains to accelerate the commercialization of humanoid robotics. It signals that mass-production roadmaps for embodied AI hardware are solidifying as industry leaders transition from prototype testing to industrial deployment. XPeng recently brought its automated robot assembly line online, targeting initial mass production of the XPeng Iron humanoid robot by late 2026 for internal store and factory deployment, followed by a general commercial market rollout in 2027. Meanwhile, Tesla has also been conducting audits of Chinese suppliers to support its own target of producing tens of thousands of Optimus units for internal factory deployment.
## BACKGROUND
Embodied AI refers to artificial intelligence systems embedded within physical bodies—such as humanoid robots—that interact with and learn from their physical environments. EV manufacturers are well-positioned to enter this space because their vehicles already rely on similar technologies, including autonomous driving neural networks, perception sensors, powerful computing hardware, and advanced battery packs.
