Xiaomi Previews Next-Gen Humanoid Robot with 66 Degrees of Freedom

Xiaomi has previewed its next-generation humanoid robot, which stands 1.7 meters tall, weighs 66 kilograms, and features 66 degrees of freedom. The prototype has already completed a four-month testing phase in Xiaomi's automotive factory, achieving a 98% success rate in nut-fastening tasks. This development showcases Xiaomi's progress in integrating embodied AI into smart manufacturing, bridging the gap between prototype testing and real-world industrial application. It also highlights the growing trend of tech giants deploying humanoid robots to optimize automotive assembly lines. Half of the robot's 66 degrees of freedom are concentrated in its hands to facilitate complex assembly tasks, powered by the self-developed Xiaomi-Robotics embodied foundation models. The robot is scheduled to make its public debut at the 2026 World Robot Conference (WRC) before being exhibited in Europe.

## BACKGROUND

Degrees of freedom (DOF) in robotics refer to the number of independent joint movements a robot can perform, with higher DOF allowing for more human-like dexterity. Embodied AI refers to artificial intelligence systems embedded in physical bodies that can perceive, reason, and interact with the physical world. Xiaomi previously entered this space in 2022 with its CyberOne robot, which had only 21 degrees of freedom.
