Vivo to Become Third Brand Supporting Google's On-Device AI Scam Detection

Code found in the "Phone by Google" app (version 234.0.9) indicates that vivo will become the third smartphone brand, after Google and Samsung, to support Google's on-device AI-powered Scam Detection feature. The feature is expected to debut on the vivo X500 series and potentially expand to the X300 series. This expansion signals Google's commitment to bringing its advanced on-device security features to broader Android OEM ecosystems, enhancing user protection against real-time phone scams. It also highlights the growing trend of integrating local AI models directly into mobile hardware for privacy-focused security. The feature, internally codenamed "Sharpie," runs in the background during calls to detect common scam patterns like requests for money transfers or sensitive data, alerting users via audio, haptics, and screen notifications. Currently, it is only available on Google Pixel and Samsung Galaxy S26 devices, and the vivo rollout may initially be limited to international models.
