Unitree Robotics Stock Drops 18.7% on Second Day Amid Realistic Humanoid Timeline
Unitree Robotics, the first humanoid robot company listed on China's STAR Market, saw its stock price drop by 18.7% on its second day of trading, wiping out 167 billion RMB in market value from its peak. Meanwhile, founder Wang Xingxing stated at the World Robot Conference 2026 that mass-market adoption of humanoid robots is still 2 to 10 years away due to current efficiency and capability limitations. The stock volatility highlights the intense market speculation surrounding the robotics sector, contrasted against the practical engineering challenges of deploying humanoid robots in real-world environments. It signals to investors and developers that while the long-term potential is high, immediate commercial viability remains constrained. Unitree's stock opened at 1,100 RMB per share on its first day (a 629.44% jump from its IPO price of 150.80 RMB) before closing at 845 RMB, but fell to end its second day at a market value of 277.9 billion RMB. Wang Xingxing noted that the market will truly take off only when humanoid robots can autonomously handle 80% of voice-commanded tasks in unfamiliar environments.
## BACKGROUND
Founded in 2016, Unitree Robotics initially gained prominence for its quadruped (four-legged) robots before expanding into humanoid robots like the H1 and the affordable G1, which was launched in 2024. Humanoid robots require advanced AI, computer vision, and precise motor control to navigate human environments, making their development highly complex and capital-intensive.
