Two Netizens Penalized in China for Generating Fake Xiaomi Car Crash Videos Using AI

Xiaomi announced that Chinese police have penalized two netizens for using generative AI to create fake car crash videos that defamed Xiaomi's automotive products and executives. One individual received a seven-day administrative detention, while the other was fined, and both were ordered to delete all infringing links. This case highlights the growing legal consequences and law enforcement actions against the misuse of generative AI to spread misinformation and damage corporate reputations. The police action followed a formal complaint by Xiaomi regarding videos targeting their automotive division.
