Tsinghua University and ByteDance's Doubao Launch AI Academic Research Course
Tsinghua University and ByteDance's Doubao AI assistant have launched a collaborative course titled "AI-Powered Academic Research: Human-Computer Interactive Knowledge Production" for the Fall 2026 semester. The curriculum integrates AI into real-world research workflows and releases reusable academic research modules directly on the Doubao desktop app. This collaboration highlights how commercial large language models are being formally integrated into top-tier university curricula to redefine academic research methodology. It also creates a direct feedback loop where student researchers help refine consumer AI tools for specialized academic tasks. Open to all Tsinghua undergraduate and graduate students, the course spans topic selection, literature synthesis, data analysis, and publication. The developed workflows are deployed as reusable "Skill" modules in the "Famous Universities Zone" of the Doubao desktop application.
## BACKGROUND
Doubao is ByteDance's primary generative AI assistant, powered by the Doubao Large Model running on Volcano Engine infrastructure. As AI adoption accelerates in higher education, universities are shifting toward structured training on human-AI collaboration rather than just establishing usage policies.
