TrendForce Predicts High-Capacity MLCC Shortages Will Last Until 2027

TrendForce predicts that soaring AI CPU and infrastructure demand will drive high-capacity MLCC shortages and price increases through the first half of 2027. Meanwhile, consumer-grade low-capacity MLCC spot prices declined by 5% in early October due to weakening demand for smartphones and laptops. This trend highlights how the rapid expansion of AI infrastructure and next-generation computing platforms creates supply chain bottlenecks that ripple across hardware components. While enterprise AI sectors face rising costs and component shortages, consumer electronics sectors experience declining orders and falling prices. The shortage is largely driven by AI computing workloads shifting toward inference and agents, alongside the deployment of new high-spec AI platforms from NVIDIA and AMD. As a result, Japanese manufacturers and Samsung Electro-Mechanics are expected to raise prices during the Q1 2027 contract negotiations.

## BACKGROUND

MLCCs, or multilayer ceramic capacitors, are essential passive electronic components widely used in integrated circuits to store and regulate electrical energy. They are critical for stabilizing power delivery in advanced processing units, graphics cards, and optical communication modules.
