Tesla Rapidly Expands Unsupervised Robotaxi Fleet in Texas Ahead of Cybercab Launch

Tesla has reportedly expanded its unsupervised Robotaxi fleet in Texas nearly sevenfold to approximately 200 vehicles over three weeks across Austin, Dallas, and Houston. Additionally, regulatory registrations for its purpose-built Cybercab increased from 7 to 45 vehicles within a few days. This rapid fleet scaling counters critics who doubted Tesla's capability to expand autonomous commercial operations beyond small pilot tests. Demonstrating a sizable, functioning unsupervised fleet using Model Y vehicles shows that Tesla's core FSD technology is transitioning toward real-world commercial viability. Tesla's autonomous driving team reported completing over 380,000 unsupervised miles without notable accidents as part of its safety record. The company is advancing a dual expansion strategy by scaling operational Model Y vehicles while simultaneously securing regulatory permits for dedicated two-seater Cybercabs.
