Tesla Confirms FSD V14 Lite Is Coming Soon to HW3 Model S and Model X

Tesla AI Lead Ashok Elluswamy confirmed that the FSD v14 Lite software update will soon roll out to older Model S and Model X vehicles equipped with Hardware 3 (HW3). Following earlier rollouts to Model 3 and Model Y, this deployment extends Tesla's compressed v14 architecture to its older flagship vehicles. This release further unifies the software ecosystem across Tesla's HW3 fleet, allowing older flagship vehicle owners to access updated self-driving capabilities. However, v14 Lite marks the practical hardware limit for HW3, as these vehicles cannot support unsupervised autonomous driving or future FSD v15 updates without a computer upgrade. FSD v14 Lite relies on compressed neural network parameters to run on HW3 computers, which possess only about 15% of the memory bandwidth of newer HW4 chips. While engineers preserved as much driving performance as possible, HW3 vehicles remain strictly limited to supervised autonomous driving.
