Tencent Revives QQ Pet with 3D Graphics and Hy3 LLM Integration
Tencent has announced the return of its nostalgic virtual pet game, QQ Pet, upgraded with 3D graphics and integrated with the Hy3 large language model. The new version features classic gameplay like feeding and bathing, combined with active, personality-driven AI interactions across various QQ interfaces. This update demonstrates a practical consumer application of large language models, transforming nostalgic virtual pets into interactive AI companions. It highlights Tencent's strategy to leverage its proprietary AI models to enhance user engagement within its massive social ecosystem. The integrated Hy3 model is an open-source Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) model with 295 billion total parameters, 21 billion active parameters, and support for a 256K context window. The upgraded QQ Pet can exhibit distinct personalities, such as being clingy or dramatic, and will appear in chat lists and chat boxes.
## BACKGROUND
QQ Pet was a widely popular desktop virtual pet game launched by Tencent in 2005 and officially shut down in 2018. The Hy3 model, open-sourced by Tencent in July 2026, uses a Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) architecture designed to balance fast and slow thinking for improved reasoning and agent capabilities.
