Tencent has reportedly elevated its desktop AI agent workspace, WorkBuddy, to one of its highest strategic priorities, granting it massive internal resources and an expedited approval process. The product achieved over 20 million monthly visits in June, leading the Chinese PC-based AI office agent market. This strategic move highlights Tencent's aggressive push to dominate the enterprise AI productivity space, intensifying competition against rivals like ByteDance and Alibaba. It signals a shift in the AI industry from simple conversational chatbots to autonomous agents capable of executing complex, multi-step workflows. WorkBuddy operates as a desktop-level AI workstation that can autonomously plan tasks, read and write local files, and call external tools to deliver completed work. Its June traffic exceeded the combined monthly visits of ByteDance's TRAE and Alibaba's QoderWork.
