The survey highlights a growing consensus that data science education should be integrated across various school subjects rather than being limited to math and computer science. This shift in perspective suggests that as AI tools become more integrated into daily life, educators and parents value foundational critical thinking and data analysis skills over specific technical skills like coding or prompt engineering. It could influence future K-12 curriculum designs to prioritize data literacy across all disciplines. Specifically, 88% of respondents believe students should acquire data literacy before graduating high school, and 76% agree that the rise of AI makes data education more critical than ever. ## BACKGROUND
Data Science for Everyone (DS4E) is a coalition dedicated to advancing data science education to equip K-12 students with essential data literacy skills. Data literacy refers to the ability to read, understand, create, and communicate data as information. Prompt engineering, which involves crafting specific inputs to guide generative AI models, was initially seen as a crucial skill during the early AI boom but is increasingly viewed as secondary to broader critical thinking abilities.
