StepFun Terminal to Launch LLM-Native Agent Smartphone STEPX Neo on October 13
StepFun Terminal has officially announced that its first LLM-native AI agent smartphone, the STEPX Neo, will launch on October 13. The device runs Step AOS, a custom agentic-native operating system designed around on-device generative AI capabilities. The release represents a shift from conventional mobile operating systems toward AI-native software architectures capable of autonomous cross-app execution. By embedding LLM capabilities directly into the OS layer, StepFun aims to streamline everyday workflows and complex task automation on smartphones. The STEPX Neo features the built-in Amoo assistant, which integrates deeply with third-party software like Feishu to read messages, manage schedules, and generate presentations after receiving user consent. Additionally, the smartphone's on-device generative AI services recently cleared regulatory filing with Chinese cyberspace authorities.
## BACKGROUND
Developed by AI startup StepFun, Step AOS was created as an agentic-native operating system to address traditional software bottlenecks in AI memory, decision-making, and execution. Instead of treating AI as a standalone chatbot app, agentic-native systems position LLM reasoning at the center of the user experience to orchestrate hardware and app interactions.
