SteerClaw Mobile Brings Agentic Local LLMs and MCP Support to Phones
A solo developer has released SteerClaw Mobile, a privacy-focused mobile application that delivers a full agentic experience by connecting to local LLM servers and supporting Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers and search providers. The app is available for testing via Apple Testflight and Google Play, allowing users to run autonomous tasks directly from their mobile devices without sharing data. This tool bridges the gap between powerful desktop-class local AI setups and mobile devices, offering a fully private alternative to commercial cloud assistants. By integrating MCP support on mobile, it empowers users to execute complex workflows—such as querying logs or analyzing business metrics—while keeping all processing on local hardware. The application ensures complete privacy by collecting zero data or analytics, routing LLM processing through the user's local server, and communicating with MCP servers and search providers only when explicitly needed. It is currently being shared with the community via Reddit to gather bug reports and feature requests.
## BACKGROUND
The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open-source standard introduced by Anthropic in November 2024 to standardize how AI systems integrate and share data with external tools, systems, and data sources. Local LLMs refer to large language models hosted and executed on a user's own hardware infrastructure, such as a personal computer with a high-end GPU, rather than on a remote cloud service.
