SpaceX Secures Record-Breaking $40 Billion GPU Financing Agreement

SpaceX has agreed to a binding $40 billion GPU financing lease with Apollo to acquire next-generation NVIDIA Vera Rubin chips for its ground compute infrastructure. The lease agreement is expected to be officially signed within 2026, with deliveries slated to begin in the first half of 2027. This represents the largest GPU financing deal in history, highlighting the extreme scale of AI infrastructure investments needed to support advanced cloud services and models like Grok. SpaceX CFO Bret Johnsen noted that the rapid sub-year payback period for system integration infrastructure makes such massive capital deployments viable. The financing arrangement diversifies SpaceX's capital sources and covers a substantial portion of the funds required for its expanding compute infrastructure. The deployed hardware will support both enterprise and consumer Grok services alongside existing and future cloud customers.

## BACKGROUND

NVIDIA Vera Rubin is NVIDIA's next-generation rack-scale AI compute architecture, designed to power agentic AI and reasoning models at scale while eliminating communication bottlenecks. Apollo is a major alternative asset management giant that provides large-scale private credit and financing solutions for capital-intensive technology projects.
