SpaceX and NVIDIA Partner to Launch Vera Rubin-Powered Starmind AI1 Satellite
SpaceX and NVIDIA have announced a partnership to launch the Starmind AI1 satellite compute payload, which will be powered by NVIDIA's next-generation Vera Rubin NVL72 architecture. This collaboration aims to deploy high-performance AI supercomputing infrastructure directly into Earth's orbit. Moving AI compute to orbit helps bypass terrestrial limitations such as land availability, power grid constraints, and cooling challenges on Earth. This partnership could pave the way for space-based orbital data centers capable of processing massive amounts of data with minimal latency. The Starmind AI1 satellite is a massive orbital compute node measuring 20 meters tall and 70 meters wide, delivering the compute capacity of approximately one NVIDIA GB300 server rack. The system utilizes deployable liquid radiators for cooling and leverages the rack-scale Vera Rubin NVL72 architecture, which integrates Vera CPUs, Rubin GPUs, and advanced networking fabrics.
