Soulart Unveils Station: A Sub-$400 Markerless VR Full-Body Tracking Camera
Korean startup Soulart announced Station, a markerless VR full-body tracking camera priced under $400 that runs machine learning algorithms locally on an integrated NPU. The device offers up to 120Hz motion capture across a coverage area of up to 50 square meters without requiring wearable sensors. Traditional VR full-body tracking often requires wearing multiple battery-powered sensors or configuring complex multi-camera rigs. By delivering high-frame-rate markerless tracking on dedicated edge hardware at an accessible price point, Station could reduce the cost and setup friction for immersive VR gaming and social platforms. Although a single Station unit can track an entire body, Soulart notes that pairing multiple units improves reliability by overcoming body occlusion. The company is also developing standalone support for untethered VR headsets, enabling full-body tracking without requiring a connected PC.
## BACKGROUND
Full-body tracking (FBT) in virtual reality translates a user's physical body movements onto an avatar, creating deeper immersion in social platforms like VRChat. Markerless tracking uses computer vision and neural networks to estimate body poses directly from video, eliminating the need for worn tracking pucks. However, monocular camera systems historically struggle with body occlusion when limbs overlap or block the camera's view.
