Six Samsung Group Entities Invest $1 Billion in AI Infrastructure Firm Helix

Six Samsung Group companies, led by Samsung Electronics, have announced a combined $1 billion investment in Helix, an AI infrastructure and data center firm. Founded by KKR and led by former AWS CEO Adam Selipsky, Helix is also backed by major partners including NVIDIA, Kuwait Investment Authority, and Vistra. The massive investment highlights the soaring demand for integrated AI infrastructure spanning data center construction, chip supplies, energy generation, and power backups. It positions the Samsung ecosystem as a full-stack hardware and solution supplier across the expanding AI cloud landscape. Samsung Electronics is contributing $500 million, with five affiliates (Samsung C&T, SDS, SDI, Samsung Life Insurance, and Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance) covering the remaining $500 million. Participating Samsung subsidiaries will supply key technologies ranging from advanced semiconductors, HVAC cooling, and data center EPC/GPUaaS capabilities to uninterruptible power supply (UPS) and battery backup units (BBU).

## BACKGROUND

Building modern AI infrastructure requires massive capital and technological integration across compute hardware, power distribution, thermal management, and networking to support high-density GPU workloads. Components like GPU as a Service (GPUaaS) and Battery Backup Units (BBU) are crucial for delivering scalable on-demand compute power while ensuring uninterrupted energy supply for hyperscale data centers.
