Singapore Financial Sector Pledges AI Training for Over 80,000 Employees

Twenty-three major financial institutions in Singapore, including banks, insurers, and asset managers, have pledged to train over 80,000 local employees in AI skills by 2028. More than half of the targeted workforce has already participated in industry-accredited training programs. The financial sector accounts for nearly 14% of Singapore's economy, making proactive workforce retraining essential to prevent white-collar job displacement as AI adoption accelerates. This initiative offers a template for nation-scale public-private collaboration in workforce development and job redesign. The reskilling effort initially targets management, wealth management, and operations roles across financial services. It builds on commitments made a year prior by Singapore's three local banks to train 35,000 workers, coinciding with official calls for stronger global governance of advanced AI systems.

## BACKGROUND

Frontier AI models are highly capable foundational systems that push the boundaries of general intelligence, often raising governance and safety concerns due to their complex capabilities. As these systems automate cognitive and analytical tasks, institutions must redesign roles to complement AI technology rather than simply replacing workers.
