Similarweb: ChatGPT Web Market Share Rebounds to 55.5% in August

According to August web traffic data from Similarweb, ChatGPT remains the dominant web AI chatbot as its market share recovered to 55.5%, up from 52.7% three months earlier. Meanwhile, Google Gemini and Anthropic Claude achieved strong year-over-year growth, reaching 25.6% and 9.3% of web traffic, respectively. The data demonstrates that while ChatGPT maintains a strong lead in browser-based AI interactions, competitors like Gemini and Claude are continuously capturing market share over the longer term. This reflects escalating competition in consumer AI as alternative models gain traction among mainstream users. Despite its recent short-term rebound, ChatGPT's web share has dropped significantly from 73.3% a year ago. Additionally, the metrics exclusively measure web domain traffic, excluding mobile applications—such as Gemini's native integrations across Android—which means overall user numbers for each platform may differ.
