SenseTime Launches 'Galaxy Project' for Domestic AI Clusters and Space-Based Computing
At WAIC 2026, SenseTime partnered with nearly 20 domestic hardware and infrastructure companies to launch the 'Galaxy Project.' This initiative aims to build five 10,000-card domestic AI computing clusters, one Token Factory, and a space-based computing constellation of over 1,000 satellites by 2030. This project represents a major push for China's domestic AI self-reliance by uniting key local chipmakers and infrastructure providers to bypass external hardware constraints. Additionally, extending AI inference to space-based constellations could enable global, low-latency spatial intelligence services. The alliance includes prominent Chinese chip firms like Cambricon, Moore Threads, Biren Technology, and Huawei Ascend. The space computing initiative, partnered with Guoxing Yuhang, plans to launch its first 'SenseTime' satellite in 2026, targeting a total space-based computing power of over 10,000 PFLOPS by 2030.
## BACKGROUND
An 'AI Token Factory' refers to a shift in AI infrastructure management, focusing on delivering measurable token-based outputs and inference services rather than raw hardware capacity. Space-based computing leverages satellites equipped with AI accelerators to perform edge computing and inference directly in orbit, reducing the need to transmit raw data back to Earth.
