Samsung Reportedly Developing Display-Equipped AI Smart Glasses for 2027 Launch
Samsung Electronics has reportedly requested Samsung Display to develop micro-displays for its next-generation AI smart glasses, targeting a commercial launch around late 2027 or early 2028. Unlike audio-only smart glasses, this new device will project visual information directly onto the lens. This project signals Samsung's ambition to rival Meta's smart glasses hardware by bringing visual head-up displays to AI-powered wearables. Positioned as a low-power peripheral, it reflects an industry shift toward lightweight, day-long wearable displays that complement existing smartphones. Samsung is evaluating sub-0.2-inch OLEDoS and LEDoS panels that utilize a 4-bit grayscale depth (16 brightness levels) rather than high-resolution color to prioritize low power consumption and text legibility. The device will rely on a paired smartphone for heavy computing, displaying only lightweight UI elements such as notifications, navigation arrows, and text.
