Samsung Partners with Mistral AI to Develop Semiconductor-Specific AI Models
Samsung Electronics has signed a strategic partnership agreement with French AI startup Mistral AI to co-develop proprietary artificial intelligence models tailored for chip design and fabrication. Samsung, which also co-led Mistral AI's €3 billion Series D funding round, plans to deploy these custom models on-premise across its semiconductor operations. This partnership highlights the deep integration of specialized frontier AI models into hardware engineering and high-tech manufacturing workflows. By applying custom AI directly to defect prediction and process optimization, Samsung aims to accelerate development timelines and improve yield in semiconductor fabrication. The enterprise models will combine Samsung Device Solutions division's proprietary manufacturing data with Mistral AI's efficient architecture. Samsung will deploy the AI locally on-premise to maintain strict security over proprietary chip designs and sensitive factory sensor data.
## BACKGROUND
Semiconductor manufacturing is extremely data-intensive, with advanced fabrication plants generating petabytes of sensor and inspection data daily. Mistral AI is a Paris-based AI firm known for building high-performance open and enterprise LLMs, making its efficient architecture well-suited for targeted fine-tuning and local deployment in industrial settings.
