Robinhood Launches AI Agents for Autonomous Retail Stock Trading

Robinhood has introduced "Robinhood Agents," an in-app AI tool powered by OpenAI and Anthropic models that enables retail investors to automate market analysis, strategy creation, and stock trading. The feature integrates agentic capabilities natively inside the app, allowing automated execution using dedicated sub-accounts, with OpenAI's Luna model offered free for the remainder of 2026. This product launch marks a major commercial milestone in agentic AI, bringing institutional-grade automated trading strategies directly to retail investors. It highlights a broader shift in consumer finance from passive analytical AI chatbots to active autonomous agents capable of executing real-world financial transactions. To limit financial risks, agents can only access funds explicitly allocated to a designated agent account, and trade confirmations are turned on by default unless manually disabled by the user. Robinhood explicitly noted that users are fully responsible for all agent-executed trades and that it has not yet published performance comparison data between agent-managed and standard user accounts.

## BACKGROUND

AI agents in financial trading are autonomous algorithms capable of evaluating market data, identifying patterns, and submitting trade orders with minimal human supervision. Alongside stock trading automation, retail trading platforms have increasingly integrated advanced trading instruments such as perpetual futures—futures contracts without a set expiration date—allowing users to maintain continuous market positions.
