Reddit to End RSS Support and Shut Down Public API Access

Reddit announced it will discontinue RSS feed support on November 13 and completely shut down its public API access by March 2027. Access to the legacy Old Reddit interface will also be restricted to logged-in users active within the past six months. This decision reflects a growing industry trend where major web platforms wall off user-generated data to protect AI content licensing revenue from unauthorized scraping. It severely impacts third-party RSS readers, researchers, and automated tools, requiring commercial agreements for future data access. Reddit reported that non-advertising revenue jumped 24% year-over-year to $43 million, largely driven by AI data licensing deals. Reddit recommends moderators migrate their automation workflows to Discord relay apps on Devvit, noting no external RSS alternative will be provided.
