Qwen 3.8-Max Enters Top 5 in LMSYS Chatbot Arena Leaderboard
In the week 31 of 2026 update of the LMSYS Chatbot Arena leaderboard, Alibaba's newly released Qwen 3.8-Max debuted at fifth place in the overall rankings. Meanwhile, Anthropic's Claude Fable 5 maintained its top position, and Moonshot AI's Kimi-K3-Max entered the rankings at 13th place. The latest rankings highlight the rapid progress of Chinese AI models, which are narrowing the performance gap with leading Western models like Anthropic's Claude series. It also demonstrates the growing competitiveness of cost-effective Chinese models in both general capabilities and coding tasks. Qwen 3.8-Max achieved an Elo rating of 1496, just 13 points behind the top-ranked Claude Fable 5, and is priced significantly lower at $2/$6 per million tokens compared to Claude's $10/$50. ## BACKGROUND
LMSYS Chatbot Arena is a crowdsourced open platform for evaluating large language models (LLMs) through anonymous, randomized pairwise battles.
