Qualcomm Unveils Adreno Matrix Cores and Neural Fusion for Mobile Unreal Engine 5

Qualcomm announced enhanced Unreal Engine 5 support for its Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 processor, introducing hardware-level Adreno Matrix Cores to the Adreno GPU. Alongside the hardware update, Qualcomm introduced Adreno Neural Fusion technology, which unifies neural processing, AI super-resolution, and frame generation into a single graphics rendering pipeline. This technology allows mobile games using Unreal Engine 5 to achieve higher frame rates and visual fidelity at lower internal rendering resolutions while reducing overall power consumption. It brings PC-class AI image reconstruction capabilities to flagship mobile devices, bridging the gap between mobile and console-quality gaming. Adreno Matrix Cores mark the first time Qualcomm has integrated dedicated AI hardware directly inside the Adreno GPU to run graphics-related neural network models. By offloading rendering strain, Qualcomm claims Adreno Neural Fusion can reduce power consumption by up to 40% while mitigating visual artifacts like flickering and ghosting.

## BACKGROUND

Unreal Engine 5 is Epic Games' real-time 3D engine featuring advanced rendering tech like Nanite for virtualized geometry and Lumen for dynamic global illumination. High-end rendering features historically demanded immense GPU resources, making mobile execution difficult without severe performance trade-offs. AI super-resolution technologies solve this by rendering games at lower native resolutions and using trained AI models to upscale the output and insert generated frames seamlessly.
