Panasonic Industry Invests 92 Billion Yen in AI Hardware Components

Panasonic Industry announced a 92 billion yen investment to expand production capacity and research for AI-related hardware components, including circuit board materials, electrolytic capacitors, and semiconductor packaging materials. The expansion features new factories in China and Thailand, alongside facility upgrades in Japan and Indonesia. This major capital allocation highlights how traditional electronics manufacturers are scaling up supply chains to meet the soaring hardware demands of AI servers and high-performance GPUs. By expanding regional manufacturing footprints, the investment aims to alleviate potential bottlenecks in critical infrastructure components. Key allocations include 67 billion yen across new MEGTRON multi-layer circuit board material factories in Suzhou and Thailand, 17 billion yen for SP-Cap conductive polymer aluminum electrolytic capacitors in Japan and Indonesia, and 8 billion yen for an R&D building dedicated to next-generation semiconductor packaging materials in Yokkaichi, Japan.

## BACKGROUND

MEGTRON refers to Panasonic's brand of high-speed, low-transmission-loss multi-layer circuit board materials heavily utilized in high-frequency network equipment and advanced servers. SP-Cap represents a line of chip-shaped aluminum electrolytic capacitors featuring low equivalent series resistance, making them ideal for stable power delivery in DC/DC converters and high-performance processors.
