Oracle Expands AI Hardware Portfolio with SambaNova SN50 RDU Integration
Oracle announced on October 28 that SambaNova's SN50 Reconfigurable Dataflow Unit (RDU) will be integrated into its Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). This addition strengthens Oracle's strategy to provide a diverse hardware portfolio for enterprise AI workloads. By diversifying its hardware offerings beyond traditional GPUs, Oracle gives enterprise customers greater flexibility in selecting specialized AI accelerators tailored to specific performance and cost requirements. This move reflects a broader industry trend where cloud providers reduce reliance on a single hardware vendor to meet exploding AI infrastructure demands. The SN50 is SambaNova's fifth-generation RDU, built using a 3nm process and specifically engineered to handle the memory-bound phase of AI inference. Alongside SambaNova, Oracle's expanding hardware lineup features accelerators from NVIDIA, AMD, Google (TPUs), and Cerebras, as well as upcoming Intel Xeon processors.
## BACKGROUND
Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) is Oracle's enterprise cloud computing service that provides scalable computing, storage, and networking resources. A Reconfigurable Dataflow Unit (RDU) is a specialized type of processor designed to handle dataflow computing paradigms efficiently, making it particularly well-suited for accelerating large-scale AI model inference.
