OptiScaler Community Unofficially Ports AMD FSR 4 to Intel Arc GPUs
The OptiScaler modding community has successfully ported AMD's FSR 4.1.2 neural super-resolution model to Intel Arc graphics cards, utilizing Intel's XMX hardware acceleration for efficient processing. This achievement demonstrates powerful cross-vendor AI workload adaptation, allowing non-AMD hardware to leverage advanced machine learning upscaling technologies with near-native performance. Benchmarks on an Intel Arc A770 showed FSR 4.1.2 Lite achieving 101.5 FPS with a 0.75ms upscaling time in The Witcher 3, nearly matching native XeSS SR performance.
## BACKGROUND
OptiScaler is an open-source modding middleware that intercepts upscaler calls in games to let users substitute different technologies like DLSS, FSR, or XeSS. Intel XMX (Xe Matrix Extensions) are dedicated hardware matrix acceleration cores built into Intel Arc GPUs to speed up AI and machine learning tasks.
