OpenMed 3.0 Released with Local-First Clinical AI and Patient Timeline Aggregation
OpenMed 3.0 has been released as an Apache-2.0 open-source clinical AI toolkit that runs completely locally without cloud fallbacks. It introduces a Patient Journey feature that aggregates data from multiple disparate sources—such as clinic notes, FHIR feeds, HL7 messages, and lab CSVs—into a single timeline. This release addresses critical healthcare software challenges regarding strict data privacy and complex patient data fragmentation. By ensuring patient data never leaves local hardware and refusing to guess or silently fallback to cloud APIs, it provides safe infrastructure for clinical informatics. The toolkit strictly avoids automated guessing during data merging, retaining conflicting diagnoses and corrected lab values for human review rather than forcing incomplete data into standard columns. Version 3.0 serves as foundational plumbing and currently features a synthetic-only summarization pipeline, with development for version 3.1 already underway via community contributions.
## BACKGROUND
FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources) and HL7 messages are technical standards developed by HL7 International to facilitate the electronic exchange of clinical and medical information between different healthcare systems. OMOP is a common data model used in healthcare analytics to standardize the structure and content of observational health data.
