OpenAI Reinstates Five-Hour Limit for Standard ChatGPT Plus Accounts

OpenAI has officially reinstated the rolling five-hour usage limit for standard ChatGPT Plus users, including those using Codex and ChatGPT Work, starting August 25. This ends a temporary six-week suspension of the limit that began in mid-July following the launch of the GPT-5.6 Sol model. This change requires developers and heavy users to manage their prompt frequency carefully to avoid hitting the cap and losing service access. For OpenAI, the limit helps distribute server demand and prevents users from accidentally exhausting their entire weekly quota in a single session. The restriction does not apply to Enterprise, Edu, or the higher-tier Pro subscriptions priced at $100 and $200 per month. To ease the transition, OpenAI has fully reset the weekly usage limits for all affected accounts, with the next scheduled reset set for September 1.
