OpenAI announced "dots", a 24/7 autonomous AI assistant featuring cartoon avatars that can independently design websites, test apps, plan agendas, and handle everyday tasks. Powered by the GPT-6 Astra model, dots operates on isolated cloud computers and progressively learns user habits through messaging apps, voice calls, and over 4,000 ChatGPT integrations. Dots marks a significant evolution from reactive chatbots to proactive, continuous AI agents capable of multi-tasking without step-by-step guidance. By combining background research capabilities with enterprise integration, it aims to seamlessly integrate persistent AI labor into personal and corporate workflows. Each dot runs on a dedicated cloud instance with customizable permission controls and built-in privacy safeguards that prevent passwords from being exposed to the underlying model. The service is rolling out to ChatGPT Pro and Business Premium users, with the first dot included at no additional cost.
