OpenAI Commits to Deploying Up to 16GW of Nvidia AI Infrastructure by 2030
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang announced that OpenAI has committed to deploying between 12GW and 16GW of Nvidia AI infrastructure by 2030. This deployment will be hosted at the PORTS-Pike technology park in Ohio, a massive AI factory site secured in partnership with SB Energy. This unprecedented scale of power commitment highlights the massive energy and infrastructure demands of future AI models, representing a potential $600 billion business opportunity for Nvidia. It also signals a shift in Nvidia's strategy to directly secure land, power, and shell (LPS) resources to guarantee capacity for its customers. The initial phase will deploy 4.25GW of capacity using Nvidia's DSX AI factory platform, with each hardware generation utilizing approximately 1.5 million GPUs. Nvidia is also investing $1.5 billion in SB Energy to support the development of the PORTS-Pike campus.
## BACKGROUND
Building AI factories requires not only advanced chips and networking but also massive amounts of land, power, and physical buildings (LPS). The PORTS-Pike Technology Campus in Ohio is a planned $67.2 billion AI megaproject backed by SB Energy and SoftBank Group, designed to address these critical infrastructure bottlenecks.
