Nvidia, SoftBank, and Amazon Secure 90% of OpenAI's Massive Funding Round
Nvidia and SoftBank have completed their final $10 billion investment installments, fulfilling their respective $30 billion commitments to OpenAI. This brings the combined contributions from major backers—including Amazon's previously completed $50 billion—to approximately $110 billion, representing 90% of the $122 billion funding round. This unprecedented capital infusion provides OpenAI with massive resources to accelerate AI model research, build out compute infrastructure, and expand data center capacity. It also tightens strategic alignment between OpenAI and leading hardware and cloud providers in the global tech ecosystem. The funding round values OpenAI at approximately $852 billion against total commitments of $122 billion. With its latest transfer complete, SoftBank's cumulative investment in OpenAI has reached around $64.6 billion, granting it an estimated 13% equity stake.
## BACKGROUND
Developing and scaling frontier artificial intelligence models requires immense computational power, specialized silicon, and vast energy infrastructure. As a result, AI research companies frequently form strategic, multi-billion-dollar partnerships with major semiconductor manufacturers and cloud compute platforms to fund their capital-intensive operational needs.
