NVIDIA Open-Sources Alpamayo 2 Super AI Model for Autonomous Driving
NVIDIA has released Alpamayo 2 Super, a 34-billion parameter foundation AI model designed for autonomous driving, under the permissive OpenMDW-1.1 license for commercial use. The model is built on the NVIDIA Cosmos 3 Super Reasoner and optimized using reinforcement learning. By providing a highly capable model under a permissive commercial license, NVIDIA enables automakers and developers to customize advanced multi-task AI for vehicle perception and decision-making while retaining control over their proprietary data. This could accelerate the deployment of safer autonomous vehicles capable of handling complex, rare road scenarios. Alpamayo 2 Super combines a 32B Vision-Language Model (VLM) backbone with a 2B diffusion expert and topped the LingoQA benchmark, outperforming models like Gemini 2.5 Pro and Qwen2.5-VL 72B. The Alpamayo family also includes smaller versions (1.5 and 1) designed for cost-effective cloud development and model distillation.
