Nvidia Acts as Guarantor for AI Cloud Providers to Boost GPU Sales

Nvidia has introduced a new financing model where it acts as a guarantor for specialized AI cloud providers (Neoclouds) to secure bank loans for purchasing Nvidia GPUs. In exchange for taking on the default risk if customers stop paying, Nvidia receives a share of the cloud providers' revenue. This strategy helps Nvidia expand its customer base beyond major hyperscalers, who are increasingly developing their own AI chips. It also enables smaller AI cloud startups to bypass traditional banking barriers and secure the massive capital needed for high-performance hardware. Early adopters of this model include GMI Cloud, Firmus, and Sharon AI, with GMI planning to invest $500 million to expand its infrastructure. However, critics warn this could trigger concerns over "circular financing" and financial risk if Nvidia fails to carefully vet the creditworthiness of these startups.

## BACKGROUND

Specialized AI cloud providers, often called "Neoclouds," focus exclusively on offering GPU compute and high-bandwidth networking optimized for AI workloads. These providers rely heavily on advanced hardware, including GPUs equipped with High Bandwidth Memory (HBM), a 3D-stacked DRAM technology designed to deliver the massive data throughput required for AI training and inference.
