Nissan to Debut 14th-Generation Skyline Sedan in December with AI-Accelerated Development

Nissan CEO Ivan Espinosa announced that the 14th-generation Skyline (V38) rear-wheel-drive sedan will officially debut in December 2024. By heavily integrating AI technology into design, engineering, testing, and production, Nissan reduced the vehicle's development cycle from 55 months down to 26 months. This development highlights how legacy automakers are adopting AI tools and operational lessons from fast-paced Asian EV markets to drastically shorten R&D timelines and reduce costs. It marks a significant shift in automotive manufacturing efficiency as established brands work to keep pace with rapid industry transformation. The V38 Skyline utilizes an upgraded version of Nissan's FM (Front Midship) platform and is expected to feature a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine paired with either a 6-speed manual or 9-speed automatic transmission. Styling touches pay homage to retro 'box-type' GT-R models with round headlights, while Nissan is also evaluating a potential hybrid powertrain variant.
