NetEase Youdao Launches OpenPods, an MFi-Certified AI Agent Earphone for iPhone

NetEase Youdao has launched OpenPods, an MFi-certified "Agent" earphone designed for iPhone users, priced at 1,499 RMB. It features native, one-click call recording without warning tones, alongside a smart charging case that functions as a standalone recorder and translator. This product addresses a long-standing pain point for iOS users by offering system-level call recording without complex workarounds. It also represents a shift in consumer electronics towards "AI hardware" accessories that integrate local storage, translation, and LLM-driven productivity agents directly into daily-use devices. The earphone case features 256MB of offline storage and a 5-8 meter pickup range, while the system offers AI meeting summaries, speaker identification, and "Ask AI" document querying. However, core AI features are currently exclusive to iOS, and advanced features require a paid premium subscription.
