MyDefence Launches Wingman Edge Wearable Drone Detector
Danish defense firm MyDefence introduced the Wingman Edge, a wearable and AI-powered passive RF detection device that alerts frontline soldiers to small drones up to 6 kilometers away. This device significantly enhances individual soldier survivability and situational awareness against evolving drone threats by leveraging edge AI to spot unknown radio frequency activities without exposing the wearer's position. Weighing under 1 kilogram, the Wingman Edge scans the 200 MHz to 6 GHz frequency band and integrates with tactical networks like ATAK to share threat data.
## BACKGROUND
Passive RF detection relies on receiving and analyzing electromagnetic signals emitted by targets without transmitting any active energy, protecting the operator from electronic detection. Edge AI applies machine learning models directly on localized hardware devices to process data in real-time without relying on cloud infrastructure.
