Moonshot AI Considers Dual Listing in Hong Kong and Shanghai for IPO

Chinese AI startup Moonshot AI is reportedly considering a dual listing in Hong Kong and Shanghai's tech-focused STAR Market to accelerate fundraising and expand its market presence. The company has confidentially submitted an IPO application in Hong Kong, aiming for a Q1 2027 debut alongside a pre-IPO round that could value the firm at around $50 billion. As global competition in frontier AI models intensifies, securing substantial capital is vital for training next-generation large language models like Kimi K3. A dual listing allows Moonshot AI to tap into both international investors via Hong Kong and mainland capital markets in Shanghai. To enable a mainland China listing, Moonshot AI must unwind its offshore Variable Interest Entity (VIE) structure, a process initiated in May that remains ongoing. Meanwhile, Nomura forecasts the startup's annual recurring revenue (ARR) will reach $1 billion by the end of the year, bolstered by prospective revenue-sharing deals of up to 30% with global cloud service providers.

## BACKGROUND

Moonshot AI is one of China's leading generative AI startups, best known for its flagship Kimi series of AI models. A Variable Interest Entity (VIE) is a contractual offshore structure long utilized by Chinese tech companies to attract foreign capital and list overseas while complying with domestic restrictions on foreign ownership.
