Microsoft to Remove Deep Research and Podcasts Agents from Consumer Copilot

Microsoft has announced that it will remove the Deep Research and Podcasts AI agents from its consumer Copilot application on August 18. While some Deep Research features will transition to the Researcher agent, the Podcasts feature will be fully discontinued, and users will lose access to previously generated audio. This decision reflects Microsoft's ongoing adjustments to its consumer AI offerings, streamlining features based on user engagement and utility. It highlights the rapid lifecycle of experimental AI features and the shift toward consolidating research capabilities into unified agents. After August 18, users can still access their previous Deep Research reports via Copilot chat history, but all generated podcast files and shared links will become permanently inaccessible. The two agents were originally introduced in April 2025, giving them a lifespan of approximately 16 months.
