Microsoft Teams to Support Third-Party Deepfake Detection Tools
Microsoft Teams is introducing support for certified third-party tools to scan meeting audio and video in real-time for deepfakes. This feature is scheduled to roll out starting in mid-November across desktop, Mac, and web versions. This update strengthens enterprise security against sophisticated AI-driven impersonation and fraud attempts during virtual meetings. By allowing external providers to integrate, organizations can better protect sensitive communications using specialized security solutions. Certified detection bots require the Calls.ReportSyntheticMedia.All permission and output a confidence score between 0.0 and 1.0 along with low, medium, or high risk levels. Teams itself only displays warning pop-ups and options while leaving the analysis to the external providers.
## BACKGROUND
Deepfakes use artificial intelligence to create hyper-realistic manipulated video or audio of individuals, posing significant security and privacy risks in corporate environments. Microsoft Graph is a developer platform that provides a unified programmability model to access data across Microsoft 365 services.
