Microsoft Reaffirms Copilot+ PC Commitment with Over 2 Trillion Monthly Local Inferences
At an event in San Francisco, Microsoft confirmed its commitment to the Copilot+ PC brand, reporting tens of millions of annual device shipments and over 2 trillion monthly local AI inferences. Microsoft also highlighted that over 40% of commercial laptops are now Copilot+ PCs. The announcement highlights Microsoft's ongoing effort to embed dedicated AI hardware processing directly into the Windows ecosystem. By promoting a hybrid intelligence approach, Microsoft aims to offload routine tasks from cloud servers to local chips, lowering operational costs and improving user privacy. Microsoft plans to enhance Copilot+ PC capabilities using hybrid intelligence centered on local context, local actions, and local models. These on-device features currently power everyday local workloads including video call enhancements, media search, and image editing.
## BACKGROUND
Copilot+ PC is Microsoft's hardware baseline for Windows 11 devices, requiring a dedicated Neural Processing Unit (NPU) capable of at least 40 TOPS alongside 16 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. Hybrid intelligence combines these local processing capabilities with cloud-based AI models to balance performance, privacy, and computational costs.
