Micron Establishes US Research Lab with $10 Billion Investment for Next-Gen Memory
Micron Technology has announced the creation of the Micron Research Lab in Boise, Idaho, committing $10 billion over the next decade. ## BACKGROUND
Modern AI workloads are heavily bottlenecked by the speed and energy cost of moving data between processors and memory. To address this, the semiconductor industry is exploring advanced packaging techniques like 3D ICs, emerging memory types (such as MRAM and ReRAM), and Processing-in-Memory (PIM) architectures that perform calculations directly within the memory chip.
